Tell Poland’s government it must respect all human rights for all. Polish leaders have threatened criminal sanctions against lesbian and gay activists and organizations, have tried to restrict freedoms of expression and association, and have even threatened violence against LGBT marchers.

Human Rights Watch and Campaign Against Homophobia (Kampania Przeciw Homofobii, Poland’s central LGBT group) ask for YOUR signatures on this petition demanding an end to homophobic attacks.

POLAND: Hands off Human Rights

Dear President Kaczynski,

We urge you and your government to stop your attacks on the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. Such attacks betray Poland’s long, proud record of struggling for human rights. Upholding equal rights for all will help build a freer future.

Your government has declared it will fire gay teachers, and impose criminal penalties on “anyone who promotes homosexuality or any other deviance of a sexual nature in education establishments.” This blatant violation of basic rights could deprive students of potentially life-saving information about sexuality and about HIV/AIDS. Members of your government have accused organizations working on LGBT people’s human rights of “pedophilia,” and threatened them with criminal investigations. A legislator in your governing coalition said that gays who demonstrate “should be bashed with a baton.” In 2004 and 2005, when mayor of Warsaw, you yourself tried to ban Gay Pride marches, saying that “public promotion of homosexuality will not be allowed.” Your words and actions have contributed to a climate where violence against LGBT people is tolerated—or even encouraged.

Such words and acts threaten democracy.
This month, the European Court of Human Rights condemned your attempts to ban Gay Pride marches in Warsaw. The court praised a “pluralism … built on the genuine recognition of, and respect for, diversity”—including “genuine and effective respect for freedom of association and assembly.”
Last month, the European Parliament, motivated by events in Poland, passed a resolution “On Homophobia in Europe.” It condemned “discriminatory remarks by political and religious leaders targeting homosexuals.” It voiced “solidarity with, and support for, fundamental rights activists and defenders of equal rights for LGBT people.” It called for an official EU investigation of what is happening to LGBT people’s rights in Poland.

Do not isolate Poland by promoting intolerance and hate. Defend all human rights for all people, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Estimado presidente Kaczynski:

Los exhortamos a usted y a su gobierno a cesar en las agresiones contra los derechos humanos de las lesbianas, los gays, las personas bisexuales y transgénero (LGBT). Esas agresiones contradicen la larga trayectoria de lucha por los derechos humanos que es un orgullo para Polonia. Afirmar la igualdad de derechos para todas las personas contribuirá a crear un futuro de mayor libertad.

El gobierno que usted preside ha declarado que despedirá a las/os docentes gays y que impondrá sanciones penales a “toda persona que promueva la homosexualidad o cualquier otra desviación de naturaleza sexual en los establecimientos educativos.” Esta violación flagrante de los derechos fundamentales podría privar a las alumnas y a los alumnos de información sobre sexualidad y VIH/SIDA que podría, eventualmente, salvar sus vidas. Integrantes de su gobierno han acusado a organizaciones que trabajan por los derechos humanos de las personas LGBT de “paidofilia” y han amenazado con iniciarles investigaciones penales. Un legislador de su coalición gobernante ha dicho que a las personas gays que participen de marchas “se las debería golpear con un bastón.” En 2004 y en 2005, siendo usted alcalde de Varsovia, intentó prohibir las Marchas del Orgullo Gay afirmando que “no se permitirá promover la homosexualidad en público.” Sus palabras y sus acciones han contribuido a generar un clima en el que se tolera, e incluso se alienta, la violencia contra las personas LGBT.

Actos y palabras de esa clase constituyen una amenaza contra la democracia.

Este mes la Corte Europea de Derechos Humanos condenó sus intentos de prohibir las marchas del Orgullo Gay en Varsovia. La Corte alabó el “pluralismo ... basado en el reconocimiento genuino de la diversidad y el respeto por la misma”, incluyendo “el respeto genuino y efectivo por la libertad de asociación y de reunión.”

El mes pasado el Parlamento Europeo, motivado por los eventos que estaban teniendo lugar en Polonia, aprobó una resolución “Acerca de la homofobia en Europa” que condenaba “los comentarios discriminatorios contra (personas) homosexuales expresados por líderes políticos y religiosos.” El Parlamento Europeo expresó su “solidaridad y apoyo a las y los activistas por los derechos fundamentales, a las defensoras y defensores de la igualdad de derechos para las personas LGBT.” Pidió también que la Unión Europea investigara con carácter oficial lo que está sucediendo con los derechos de las personas LGBT en Polonia.

No aísle a Polonia promoviendo la intolerancia y el odio. Defienda todos los derechos humanos para todas las personas, sin importar su orientación sexual y su identidad de género.

Petycja do państwa Polskiego wzywająca do poszanowania praw człowieka

Apelujemy o wysyłanie wiadomości do polskiego rządu, wzywającej do respektowania praw wszystkich ludzi. Przyłącz się i podpisz zamieszczoną poniżej petycję!
W ostatnim czasie, polscy politycy grozili sankcjami prawnymi aktywistom ze środowisk lesbijek, gejów, a także organizacji, które je wspierają. Próbowali ograniczyć prawo wolności wypowiedzi i zgromadzeń, a nawet grozili użyciem przemocy wobec uczestników manifestacji organizowanych przez lesbijki, gejów, osoby bi- i transseksulane (LGBT).
Human Rights Watch i Kampania Przeciw Homofobii (główna organizacja LGBT w Polsce) prosi o TWÓJ podpis na załaczonej petycji domogającej się zakończenia ataków inspirowanych homophobią. Kampania Przeciw Homofobii złoży poniższą petycję na ręce polskich władz podczas tegorocznej Parady Równosci w Warszawie 19 maja.

Szanowny Panie Prezydencie

Nalegamy aby Pan i Pański Rząd zaprzestał atakowania praw człowieka lesbijek, gejów, osób bi- i transseksualnych. Takie działania zaprzeczaja długiej i dumnej walce Polski o prawa człowieka. Poszanowanie równych praw wszystkich ludzi jest nieodzownym elementem budowania wolności.

Pański Rząd ogłosił, że nauczyciele będący gejami zostaną wydaleni z pracy, a także zapowiedział sankcje prawne wymierzone w osoby, które będą “promować homoseksualizm i inne dewiacje seksualne w szkolnictwie” . Tak wyraźne pogwałcenie podstawowych praw jednostki może spowodować, że ograniczony zostanie dostęp uczniów do informacji na temat HIV/AIDS. Informacji, które mogą ocalić im życie.

Członkowie Pańskiego Rządu oskarżają organizacje zajmujące się ochroną praw człowieka osób LGBT o “pedofilie” i grożą im postępowaniem karnym. Jeden z parlamentarzystow partii wchodzącej w skład rządzącej koalicji stwierdził, że demonstrującym gejom “należy dolać pałami”. W latach 2004 i 2005, pełniąc urząd Prezydenta Miasta Warszawy, Pan Panie Prezydencie próbował zakazać organizowania Parady Równości twierdząc, że “publiczne promowanie homoseksualizmu nie bedzie tolerowane”. Pańskie słowa i czyny przyczyniły sie do klimatu, gdzie przemoc wobec środowisk LGBT jest nie tylko tolerowana, a wrecz popierana.

Takie słowa i czyny zagrażaja demokracji.

W tym miesiącu, Europejski Trybunał Praw Człowieka potępił Pańskie zamiary zakazania przeprowadzania Parad Równości w Warszawie. Trybunał poparł “pluralizm…budowany na szczerym poszanowaniu i respektowaniu inności”, włączając “szczere i skuteczne poszanowanie wolności wypowiedzi i zgromadzeń”.

W minionym miesiącu, Parlament Europejski, zaniepokojony wydażeniami w Polsce, przyjął rezolucję “W sprawie homofobii w Europie”. Wzywa ona do “publicznego potępienia oświadczeń osób publicznych wzywających do dyskryminacji i nienawiści ze względu na orientację seksualną”. Wyraża ona także “solidarność i poparcie dla aktywistów i obrońców podstawowych praw czlowieka osób LGBT”. Rezolucja domaga się także oficjalnego dochodzenia przez komisje PE sposobu traktowania osób LGBT w Polsce.

Panie Prezydencie, nie izolujmy Polski promując nienawiść i nietolerancje. Brońmy praw wszystkich ludzi, bez wzgledu na płeć czy orientacje seksualną.
